NUCLEAR MATERIALS HANDLING SYSTEMS

Lucas EMS is experienced in engineering remote

handling systems and equipment for nuclear

materials.  For the Idaho Spent Fuel Project

(under subcontract to Tetra Tech, Inc.),

Lucas EMS served a key engineering role in

the design of remote handling systems to

receive, inspect, repackage, and provide interim

storage of spent nuclear fuel packages. We

also provided Structural Engineering, Requirements

Management, and Safety Analysis Support Services.

Lucas EMS personnel are experienced in

engineering systems for retrieval, treatment and

disposal of radioactive mixed liquid and solid wastes.   Since 1994,Lucas EMS has been providing engineering support at the DOE's Hanford Site in Richland, Washington including the Spent Nuclear Fuel Project, Waste Treatment Plant, and Hanford Tank Farms.

Our nuclear materials engineering expertise includes Spent Fuel and Canister Handling Systems; Hot Cell Engineering; Remote Handling Systems; Time/Motion Analysis; and Human Factors Engineering

PROCESS ENGINEERING

Core competency since the company's inception, involves NUCLEAR PROCESS ENGINEERING. Key personnel have over 25 years of experience in roles for Hanford's high- and low-level radioactive tank waste retrieval and treatment program.

We are experienced in Process Analysis and engineering of nuclear waste treatment technologies, including pretreatment and separations, waste vitrification, and waste grouting.

Lucas EMS was engaged by the Hanford Tank Waste Contractor to develop various options for liquid waste pretreatment, handling and storage, to enhanceHanford's tank waste treatment program (River Protection Project). This work identified a number of process options for significantly reducing cost and schedule for Hanford tank waste treatment.

Our Process Engineering expertise includes Radioactive Mixed Waste Treatment technology expertise; process flow development and mass balance computation; Radioactive Mixed Waste pretreatment and immobilization technologies and processes.

 ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING SERVICES

Lucas EMS is experienced with the requirements for compliance with NEPA, RCRA and CERCLA regulations for a variety of nuclear facility operations.

Our personnel are knowledgeable in the development of environmental compliance strategies, risk assessments, feasibility studies and remedial designs to support nuclear facility operations and waste site remediation.  We are prepared to provide engineering support to our clients, from site investigation through development of remediation options and risk assessments, as well as preparation of regulatory documentation through closure.
